3 Common Ways to Evenly Split Custody

3 Common Ways to Evenly Split Custody

Every week we get questions from divorcing parents about how to evenly split their parenting time.      Here are 3 common ways we have seen:

  1. Every other week.  This is the least confusing way to evenly split custody of your children.  The children spend one week with Mom and one week with Dad on a rotating basis.  Most parents choose to start the week on either Friday night or Sunday night to prevent a disruption during the school week.
  2. 2-2-3.  In a two week period, Dad has the children for 2 days (Sunday, Monday), Mom has 2 days (Tuesday, Wednesday) and Dad gets the children back for 3 days (Thursday, Friday, Saturday).  The second week is reversed.  Mom has 2 days (Sunday, Monday), Dad has 2 days (Tuesday, Wednesday) and Mom gets the children back for 3 days (Thursday, Friday, Saturday).
  3. 3-3-4-4.  In a two week period, Dad has the children for 3 days (Sunday, Monday, Tuesday), Mom has 3 days (Wednesday, Thursday, Friday).  Then Dad gets the children back for 4 days (Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday) and Mom follows with 4 days (Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday).

There are many ways to co-parent.  The benefit of a Tennessee Permanent Parenting Plan is that it clearly maps out all of your parenting time and prevents confusion.
